Great Escape 6” x 6” stained glass
I am blessed to live in a beautiful, remote part of western Colorado. The breathtaking views, high mountain desert mesas, amazing sunsets and the night sky all help to keep me grounded. It has become increasingly important for me to consume daily news and social media in smaller doses. I try to balance being informed and participating in our democracy with the frequent feelings of despair for our nation. I hope my little aspen escape brings you some tranquility.
Travel Memories exhibit
Erie, Colorado
“Desert Moon" 12" x 9" Found rusted metal on tinted mortar
I’m always finding interesting ‘trash’ in the desert. Often times it has become more about cleaning up our ranch property than planning an art piece - but these scraps of metal mimic the Grand Mesa just to the south of us. I don’t need to travel far for breathtaking mesa views and amazing skies.
Earth, Air, Fire, Water exhibit
Silverthorne, Colorado
"End of the Drought" 12" x 12" Beach glass, glass crystals, millefiori, feathers, gold smalti, wire on tinted mortar
Our homestead on Colorado’s Western Slope relies on snowmelt and rain for our hay pasture to feed our horses. This past year broke 30-year records for lack of precipitation, while Colorado wildfires devastated over 64,000 acres. Climate change is leading to increased temperatures, lower humidity levels, and drought and wildfire conditions more often. My mosaic “End of the Drought” is hope for all of us to take action for our planet NOW.
Avian Kingdom Exhibit
Lakewood, Colorado
“Blackbird" 12" x 7.5" Wood slab, stained glass, mini ceramic tile
Motivated by the Beatles' tune "Blackbird," and pondering Paul McCartney's inspiration regarding the civil rights struggles in the 1960s, I created this small mosaic for the Avian Kingdom exhibit.
"Blackbird singing in the dead of night, Take these broken wings and learn to fly, All your life, You were only waiting for this moment to arise..."
Celebrating the Eucharist exhibit
Steamboat Springs, Colorado
"Passion" 10" x 10" Stained glass, ceramic, raku, gold smalti and mirror
I am pleased to have my mosaic "Passion" juried into this special exhibit at Holy Name Catholic Church. The exhibit in Steamboat is part of the western arm of a Pilgrimage from the Pacific Coast that will cross the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains on foot.

Transform your Life with Glass?
The surprising way pieces of glass can change your life....
One of Kathy's 2016 Ghost Ranch students, Judith Fein, is a freelance writer and wrote about attending the Mosaic Reflections workshop. Here is the article for Psychology Today, and about creating her first mosaic EVER!
"With Kathy’s support and technical help, I could do whatever the particular mosaic seemed to want. I could be….a mosaic whisperer."
